Ratac is a small coastal settlement located in the Bar Municipality, on Montenegro’s southern Adriatic coastline. The area takes its name from the historic Ratac Peninsula — a rugged promontory crowned by the ruins of a medieval Benedictine monastery, which stands as one of the most evocative and photographed landmarks on this stretch of the coast.
The peninsula and its surroundings are characterised by unspoiled natural beauty, with rocky coves, crystal-clear waters, and fragrant pine forests lining the coastline. The broader Ratac area, situated between Bar and Sutomore, offers a range of property types including sea-view apartments, stone cottages, and building plots at prices that are competitive compared to the more developed resort towns to the north.
Bar city centre, with its port, railway station, ferry terminal to Italy, and full range of commercial facilities, is approximately 10 kilometres away. Sutomore, a popular family beach resort, borders the area to the north. The Adriatic Highway (E80) connects Ratac to Budva in approximately 40 minutes and to the Albanian border in under 30 minutes to the south, making it well positioned for both domestic travel and regional access.
The relatively low-density development of the Ratac area means that building plots and land parcels here still represent strong investment potential as tourism infrastructure along the Bar Riviera continues to expand. For buyers drawn to history, natural beauty, and an authentic Montenegrin coastal experience away from the crowds, Ratac is a compelling and underappreciated option on Montenegro’s southern coast.
